Ingredients

  • 1 large russet potato scrubbed and sliced 1/4-inch thick
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil, for spraying
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup yellow onion thinly sliced (optional)

Equipment

  • 1 Air fryer
  • 1 Sharp knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Oil mister (optional, for even oil distribution)

Method

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry the russet potato, then slice it into even 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  2. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive or avocado oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Arrange the potato slices in a single layer in the basket, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  4. Spritz the potatoes with a little more oil and sprinkle evenly with salt and pepper.
  5. Air fry at 400°F for 5 minutes, until the potatoes start to look lightly golden.
  6. Carefully flip each potato slice, spritz again with oil, and if using, scatter the thinly sliced onions among the potatoes.
  7. Continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes, checking for desired crispness and tenderness.
  8. Remove any potatoes that are perfectly golden and tender, then continue to cook any remaining slices for an additional 2-3 minutes until all are done.
  9. Serve immediately for the best crispy results.

Notes

For extra crispiness, soak potato slices in cold water for 15-30 minutes, then pat very dry before cooking.
Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed to ensure even crisping.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days; reheat in the air fryer for best texture.
